POSITION SUMMARY
The Manager of Disease Programs Communications is responsible for developing and implementing communications plans, materials and messaging about OneWorld Health’s drug development programs for neglected diseases. S/he will work with team members, consultants and Outreach, to favorably position the organization, identify opportunities for visibility, and implement consistent messaging in support of these programs. The Manager of Communications will play a direct role in activities that increase the profile of the programs and will forge relationships with public health organizations and other stake-holders working on similar projects.
 
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned. 
 
  • Serves as communications liaison to the project teams and partners involved with OneWorld Health’s drug development initiatives;
  • Writes, edits and publishes content including translating complex scientific information into lay terms for use in organizational publications (annual reports, newsletters, etc.) and external media pieces (press releases, magazine articles, policy briefs, etc.);
  • Supports the communications components of scientific symposia/meetings, interviews and other public events; Prepares background materials and coaches internal spokespersons; Serves as spokesperson as necessary;
  • Responds to media inquiries and develops and maintains new and existing media contacts as needed;
  • Manages relationships with vendors, including graphics and printing companies, webmasters, etc as needed;
  • Domestic and/or international travel related to professional responsibilities as and when required.

Job Requirements:

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS
  
  • Master’s Degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism or related subject
  • Minimum of five years experience in Public Relations or other Communications areas with an emphasis in pharmaceuticals, medical sciences and/or biotechnology. Experience working in global health strongly desired
  • Great attention to detail and highly organized
  • Proven ability to work independently, as a self-starter, and in a fast-paced team environment
  • Strong communicator, solid interpersonal skills and an ability to handle conflict
