Herb MontgomeryHerbert D. Montgomery, Chair of the Board of Directors
Formerly Vice Chairman and Executive Officer of Lightpost Holdings, LLC, (holding company of the Thomas Kinkade Company and other entities),
is a gifted business leader and strategist. Prior to joining Lightpost Holdings, Mr. Montgomery was the Executive Vice President, Chief Financial Officer and Treasurer of Standard Media International, Inc., publisher of The Industry Standard magazine. Over the last 25 years, Mr. Montgomery has served in executive positions of several technology and services companies, including Cotelligent, Guy F. Atkinson Company, Harding Lawson Associates, and National Semiconductor. An experienced executive and strategist, Mr. Montgomery specializes in: high growth, technology environments; strategic acquisitions; taken three companies public, and one from public to private; and successfully completed several turnarounds. Mr. Montgomery holds a B.S. degree in Finance and a M.S. degree in Business Administration from California State University, Northridge.

Richard ChinRichard Chin, M.D., Chief Executive Officer, Institute for OneWorld Health is an Internist with extensive expertise in drug development. He has overseen over 40 Investigational New Drug (IND) Applications for new molecular entities and new indications, as well as eight New Drug Applications (NDAs)/Biologic License Applications (BLAs), and has authored a major textbook on clinical trial medicine. Dr. Chin joins One World Health from OXiGENE, where he served as President and Chief Executive Officer. Previously, Dr. Chin served as Senior Vice President and Head of Global Development for Elan Corporation, where he had worldwide responsibility for Clinical Development, Regulatory, Biostatistics, CMC, QA/Compliance, Safety and Medical Affairs. Dr. Chin has also held various clinical and scientific roles for Genentech, Inc. including Head of Clinical Research for the Biotherapeutics Unit, overseeing approximately half of the drugs at Genentech, and began his career at Procter and Gamble Pharmaceuticals, where he served as Associate Medical Director. He received a B.A. in Biology, magna cum laude, from Harvard University and the equivalent of a J.D. with honors from Oxford University in England under a Rhodes Scholarship. Dr. Chin holds a Medical Degree from Harvard Medical School and is licensed to practice medicine in California. He previously served on the Adjunct Clinical Faculty of Stanford University School of Medicine and currently serves on the Board of Directors of Genmedica, located in Barcelona, Spain.

Menghis BairuDr. Menghis Bairu, M.D., Executive Vice President, Head of Global Development and Chief Medical Officer, Élan, has almost two decades of international experience in the pharmaceutical, healthcare, and non-profit arenas. His skills span the commercial, research and development and managed care sectors of the pharmaceutical industry, with particular emphasis on the clinical development of important, new therapies. He is currently Executive Vice President and Head of Global Development for Elan, a Dublin-based, internationally renowned neuroscience/biotech company. On a global basis, Dr. Bairu is responsible for Clinical Development, Biometrics, Regulatory, CMC, Quality/Compliance, Safety and Risk Management, Clinical Operations, and Medical Affairs. He is a member of Elan’s executive Operating Committee. Previously, Dr. Bairu worked in various roles at Genetech, and as Medical Director for the Fremont Health Corporation. He co-founded International Medical Foundation, Inc., a 501(c)3 foundation whose mission is to acquire medical equipment and materials for donation to charitable institutions and government health care entities in developing countries and also the Founder and Chair of the East African Medical Association, Europe and Chair of the Eritrean Medical Association, Italy. He received his undergraduate degree in Business Administration from Instituto VII Tecnico Commerciale in Milan, Italy, and attended the Universita Statale, Facolta' di Medicina e Chirurgia (Faculty of Medicine & Surgery) in Milan, where he received his Medical Degree.

Les BenetLeslie Z. Benet, Ph.D., Professor, Department of Biopharmaceutical Sciences & Pharmaceutical Chemistry, University of California at San Francisco (UCSF), is an internationally recognized authority on drug development. Dr. Benet is former Chair of the Departments of Pharmacy and Biopharmaceutical Sciences at UCSF (1978-1995), and currently lectures at UCSF on drug development and the operation of the FDA. He has founded three start-up pharmaceutical companies and holds nine US patents on pharmaceutical compounds. He is past chair of the International Pharmaceutical Federation, and is a member of the Institute of Medicine of the National Academy of Sciences. He has served as Chair of the FDA Expert Panel on Individual Bioequivalence, and on scientific advisory boards to a number of corporate and foundation boards, including Roche Bioscience and the American Foundation for Pharmaceutical Education.

Victoria HaleVictoria Hale, Ph.D., Founder and Chair Emeritus, Institute for OneWorld Health Dr. Hale is a pharmaceutical scientist who established her expertise in all stages of biopharmaceutical drug development at the US Food and Drug Administrations Center for Drug Evaluation and Research; and at Genentech, Inc., the world's first biotechnology company. Dr. Hale’s recent honors include; being elected to membership in the Institutve of Medicine of the National Academies in 2007, being named a John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation Fellow in 2006 and selection as an Ashoka Fellow for work in leading social innovation also in 2006. In 2005, The Economist named Hale the recipient of its Social and Economic Innovation award and Esquire Magazine named her “Exec of the Year”. That same year OneWorld Health was awarded the Social Responsibility Award at the prestigious Pharmaceutical Achievement Awards competition and received the Skoll Award for Social Entrepreneurship.

Fred KyleFrederick W. Kyle, Former President Commercial Operations, Smithkline Beecham Pharmaceuticals, , is a seasoned executive, board member, and consultant to the pharmaceutical industry, with more than four decades of experience, including assignments in the developing world. Mr. Kyle’s experience spans large companies, such SmithKline Beecham Plc to small therapeutics and consulting companies, and to the nonprofit sector where he managed the Red Cross' blood and tissue donation program in the U.S. For more than a decade he was with SmithKline Beecham, serving in his last position as president of the pharmaceuticals division’s worldwide commercial operations and a member of the corporation’s board of directors. Mr. Kyle received his bachelor’s degree in economics from Swarthmore where he currently serves as a trustee.

Keith OlsonKeith Olson, Director Financial Planning & Analysis, Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, currently manages the financial team that oversees the foundation’s annual budget, prices foundation strategic plans, maintains its financial reporting framework, and consults with its program staff on financial issues. Mr. Olson has garnered his various corporate finance experience by serving in several executive positions which have included private debt and equity investing, mergers and acquisitions, business plan development, and joint venture structuring. Prior to joining the foundation, Mr. Olson served in finance positions with Citibank, Prudential Capital Group, and KPMG. Mr. Olson holds B.S. degrees in Economics and Industrial Management from Purdue University and received his Masters in Business Administration from Duke University's Fuqua School of Business.

Regina RabinovichRegina Rabinovich, MD, MPH Director, Infectious Diseases, Global Health Program, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. Dr. Rabinovich received an MD from Southern Illinois University and trained in pediatrics at the University of North Carolina (UNC) in Chapel Hill. After a one-year stint in administration as chief resident, she completed 3 years of training in maternal and child health, preventive medicine, epidemiology, and obtained an MPH from UNC. She joined the epidemiology training program at the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) as a fellow. She held various positions at NIAID, including chief of the clinical and regulatory affairs branch of the division of microbiology and infectious diseases. Before joining the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation she was director of the Malaria Vaccine Initiative for the Program for Appropriate Technology in Health (MVI/PATH). In her current position as director of infectious diseases, she is involved in the development of strategies and their implementation for the prevention, treatment and control of diseases of particular relevance to global health, focusing on malaria, pneumonia, diarrhea, human papillomavirus (HPV), and the more classic “neglected diseases”. The scope includes drug and vaccine research, development and introduction, clinical trials and control programs.
